Prayer Request for Bihar, India

Bihar is an eastern state of India, known for its lawlessness.  Jharkhand was once southern Bihar, is now a separate state.

Bitendra, a man from Sonpur, Bihar, joined the Indian army and was posted to Churchandpur due to the ethnic strife tearing the area apart at the time.  He met Christians there, came to Christ, was baptized in Jesus name, received the Holy Spirit, married a Pentecostal woman, invited Manipur’s ministers to speak in an army church.

Bitendra had a great burden for his people, and many times went to Bihar to preach good news of Jesus Christ.  When his family wanted to be baptized, Manipur minister Ramliana gave Bitendra the address of Daniel Darlong in Calcutta.  Ramliana and Daniel had attended Scism Christian Institute in New Delhi together.

Daniel went from Calcutta to Bihar and baptized the people.  In 2006, some of Bitendra’s family attended a crusade in Calcutta, and in Bihar we now have five churches, 11 preaching points and 104 baptized members.  In Jarkhand, we have nine members.  The Dum Dum, Calcutta, church supports the Bihar workers a little.

One worker, Prem Jaslok, was murdered on September 3, 2007.  He was 25 years old, the only son of an elderly woman named Devi.  He left behind a son, one year old, and his wife, twenty years old.  After he died, her parents, who are Hindu, took her back to another village.

Ramliana, Daniel and a young man from Calcutta who is Bitendra’s oldest son visited Bihar in November 2007.  Because Kiran is a very new Christian, too new, Ramliana feels, to survive as a Christian all alone, he asked her parents to let her and her son go to Churachandpur where the church will make a home for them.  They’ll see the parents’ response in February.

Ramliana, Daniel and friend also visited the towns Jadhua, Bidhipur, Mahanan, Mamrispur and Sonpur.  As Ramliana says, ‘The Healer is with us.’  Many people were healed, 32 received Holy Spirit baptism and eight people were baptied in Jesus name.

The brothers thank many people from many places who prayed for them.

Pray For Peace

Dear friends,

In Varanasi, ground zero of Hinduism, where Ajinbou Chatmai, Scism Christian Institute graduate, is winning people to Jesus Christ, a terrorist blast killed nine people and injured 45.

In another city, Faizabad, a blast killed four people and injured fourteen.

Fortunately, no deaths of injuries resulted from a blast in Lucknow.

So far, we do not have churches in Faizabad or Lucknow.

Please pray for peace and for safety of the people in Varanasi, Faizabad and Lucknow, and that these events will make people turn to the Prince of Peace.

Sincerely,
Stanley Scism

Praise Report: Orissa, India

Praise Report:

At youth camp in Orissa, India, some Hindu youth activists showed up and said Christians are giving money to Hindus to convert to Christianity (a typical and old accusation).  HY Paul, apostle to Orissa, reports:

‘The young people fasted and prayed earnestly.  Before the camp ended, the Hindu man who had tried to stop the camp came to Jesus Christ and was fervently worshiping the Lord.’

Prayer Request:

Sister Rekha from Orissa (who plans to come for ministerial training at Scism Christian Institute this session)’s mother is very ills.  Please pray for Rekha that she can come this session.  Through these people we train, the church can grow larger and stronger.

Please Pray for Amit

Dear friends,

An Indian friend of mine, Amit, whom I went to junior high school with and who is by family tradition Hindu but by personal inclination not particularly religious, is critically ill, has slipped into a coma, and I’m afraid is not ready to meet God.

Please pray for his recovery, and that this whole experience will soften his heart and make him realize his need of Jesus Christ.

Prayer Request:  Andhra Pradesh, India

Please pray for people and especially saints in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, to be safe.

Terrorist attacks killed at least 44 people and injured at least 120 in Lumbini Park and Gokul Chat Bandari neighborhoods in Hyderabad on Saturday evening.  The death toll will probably rise.

Please pray for peace.  Some churches on 2007 September 30 will have women’s fellowship prayer for peace.

Prayer Request, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India

Prayer Request:

Konar Sing, pioneer pastor in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India, who has started seven churches and preaching points in the last year, was in an accident Monday morning Indian time at 8.45, and is now in the hospital.  He had some minor injuries to his head and nose.  His motorcycle helmet was broken.

Please pray for people of Kerala, SW India

Please pray for people of Kerala, SW India.  Monsoon is heavy,low-lying areas are flooded, people can’t go to work and an epidemic of viral fever has spread such that people can’t walk, have giddiness or headaches–symptoms vary so much that the state government asked the central government to help them.  People are dying every day. Many people are afraid, hospitals are filled with thousands of patients and have insufficient medical staff.  Believers are also affected.

Please have the people pray for deliverance.

News Release/Prayer Request

People from the Meitei tribe in Manipur are now reaching into their
fellow tribals in Myanmar who have not yet heard of Jesus Christ.
This is a dangerous and difficult assignment. Please pray that they
will financially be able to go and will be kept free to minister, not
being jailed in Myanmar.

World Network of Prayer

If you want to establish a prayer network, or join one, here are hints from Thetus Tenney, whom my father, Harry Scism, asked to organize WNOP (World Network Of Prayer). She says WNOP exists ‘to more fully employ the power potential of agreeing, focused prayer for world revival and other needs within the Body of Christ.’ Setting up groundwork for this takes time and involves intricacy. The WNOP secretary has prayer guides written and printed to help people wanting to pray more who don’t know what to pray about or how to develop a prayer life. For more information, contact www.wnop.org

Each church and even departments in churches can appoint prayer network coordinators and include people in assigned prayers. These coordinators can share praise reports (telling about answered prayer) with other coordinators. You can give prayer requests to local coordinators, who can then decide which ones to send to larger groups of churches, whether they be called fellowship circles, sections, districts, synods, diocese, units. These coordinators then decide which ones to send to coordinators of larger prayer circles, and so on. Or, if you want a more rapid response system than that to deal with emergencies, you can authorize all local pastors or local elders (whatever in each place the local church leader is called) to authorize broader circulation. The point is to get bona fide requests into the hands of the people ASAP and for each nation organizes a prayer network by people who exemplify consistent prayer and set aside special days to fast and pray.

Also, each country can use prayer warriors to minister to churches in different meetings. These prayer warriors need not be men–some of our great prayer leaders are women. In India, I’ve seen God’s move through Kenter Doje, Mala Snow, Pradipa Patricia and many others. In Nepal, I’ve seen the same through Kamsya Karen, Jalu Jessica, Anjuli…this list goes on. These current examples encourage other people to similarly surrender to God.

Conferences and conventions can emphasize prayer. Special sessions or seminars can teach intercessory prayer, also using prayer guides and recordings to inform and inspire national constituency to intercessory prayer, binding us together in prayer and love, even though we be far apart physically, geographically and culturally.

WNOP sends prayer letters with answered prayers and miracles, as well as articles about prayer and lists of prayer needs, to people on its email list. National, state, county or district, and city/town/village prayer coordinators can be put in touch with this by other means if they don’t have email. Urgent needs might not be able to be sent to people further off the communication link, but at least long-term needs and the prayer letters offering suggests can be so sent. To do this, national church boards can choose as national prayer coordinator someone carrying a burden of prayer. Each convention, conference and mass meeting can present to the members an enrollment form so they can join the network. Each nation can select a way of communicating between churches so as to communicate prayer requests and praise reports through the system. The national prayer coordinator, or whoever is the first one on the email chain, can send these onward to www.wnop.org

If we passionately pursue involvement in this, share with prayer networks our plans, prayer activities and requests and tell them about prayer groups to receive requests, setting up this can take time effort and money. In one British church organization, each church subscribes by paying twenty pounds annually to a weekly prayer magazine containing requests, praise reports.

Pentecost Day began with people praying together ‘in one accord.’ As Thetus Tenney said, again, ‘In Acts 4, desperate prayer by desperate people released supernatural faith’ resulting in supernatural shaking, fullness, boldness, unity, submission, fruitfulness, and generosity. Let Pentecost happen again in our hearts, and in people’s lives through international revival we all want, God has promised, and we already have more and more.

Here are sample prayer request and praise report forms you might want to adopt or adapt in your various places:
