According to a recent survey among Lutherans, not all
parents practice what they preach:
59% of parents require their children under age
eighteen to attend church, synagogue or other religious
services.
91% of parents who attend consistently require their
children to attend, but 19% of those who rarely or
never attend require their children to go anyway.

According to a survey, Americans depend most on parents to form
religious beliefs:
64% said their parents most influenced them,
9% said their friends,
7% said no one had any influence,
6% said a clergy member or a spouse,
5% said another family member most influenced them. |
People sixty-five years and above most often credited a parent
(71%), while people in their twenties were most likely to credit
a friend (13%). Those who did not participate in church at all
were most likely to say no one influenced them (16%).
